MANKATO, Minnesota (KEYC) – Businesses in Mankato are helping families prepare for dropping temperatures.

“We want to make sure that every family has what they need to survive, and for us being out in the cold is one of the big needs that we want to make sure we’re met,” said George Massad, owner. and broker. by Massad Immobilier.

Le Massad Real Estate Coat Drive collects new and lightly used winter clothing for those in need.

“They are jackets, coats, scarves, mittens, hats, anything like that,” Massad said.

The third annual event kicked off on Saturday in partnership with JP Fitness and Graif Clothing, which is this year’s drop-off site.

Massad added: “Last year we collected 350 coats, and it was all very useful. This year the need is even greater, so we are looking to exceed that target.

Donations will be given to Greater Mankato Area United Way which will distribute them to several local partners.

“Lots of programs for young people and especially a lot of families in our community,” said Massad.

Recipients will include Connections Ministry, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial and The Salvation Army as well as area public schools in St. Peter, Waseca and Mankato.

Items can be dropped off daily from noon to two.

“Please feel free to stop by, and we would be more than happy to receive your donations, and know that they will be very useful and are greatly appreciated,” said Massad.

The drive will end on Friday December 3.
